Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
CBS was the first university in Germany to achieve international accreditation from the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE). While FIBAA and state recognition validate compliance with European/German academic standards, IACBE accreditation specifically certifies that CBS's business programs meet American outcome-based educational frameworks, making CBS degrees easily recognised by North American multinational corporations and graduate schools.
Being part of the Klett Group (one of Germany's largest educational management groups) provides CBS with financial stability, access to corporate education infrastructure, digital learning technology, and direct connections to over 1,300 corporate partners across the DACH region.
During the second or third semester of most Master's programs, students complete a mandatory Business Project. Student teams act as external management consultants for real corporate clients such as Lufthansa, Cologne Bonn Airport, or regional tech firms, analysing a real business problem, formulating operational strategies, and presenting final recommendations directly to C-level executives.
Undergraduate programs at CBS build a compulsory integrated semester abroad into the 5th semester. Because CBS maintains bilateral exchange agreements with over 160 universities worldwide (in North America, Asia, Latin America, and Europe), students pay regular CBS tuition during their term abroad without paying additional host-university tuition fees.
The B.Sc. Business Psychology combines industrial/organizational psychology with consumer behaviour. Students specialise in areas like HR Management & Organisational Behaviour, Market Research & Consumer Psychology, or Digital User Behaviour, preparing them for roles in talent recruitment, brand strategy, or UX research.
Beyond core quantitative modules (finance, accounting, data analysis), every CBS curriculum includes mandatory Leadership & Soft Skills training. Students complete dedicated workshops in intercultural communication, negotiation tactics, public speaking, business ethics, and corporate sustainability.
The CBS Scholarship grants a 25% reduction on total tuition fees for the entire study duration. It is awarded based on two tracks: Academic Merit (top secondary/undergraduate GPA) or Social Engagement/Leadership (proven track record in community projects, student representation, or entrepreneurial initiatives).
For graduates with non-business degrees (e.g., engineering, computer science, humanities, or social sciences), CBS offers a Pre-Master Prep Semester or direct entry into the M.A. International Management (Pre-Master Track). This foundation module covers key principles in financial accounting, micro/macroeconomics, and corporate strategy before students join core Master's classes.
CBS hosts annual internal recruitment fairs and Business Days across its Cologne and Mainz campuses. Recruiters from companies like PwC, KPMG, EY, Deutsche Post DHL, Ford, and various startups visit campus specifically to recruit CBS students for mandatory practical semesters, Werkstudent positions, and post-graduation trainee roles.
Before arriving in Germany, international students are paired with a senior CBS student through the Study Buddy Program. The buddy provides peer support, assists with local administrative tasks (bank accounts, health insurance, city registration), and helps new international students integrate into campus life.
CBS was an early adopter of the UN's Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME). Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), environmental management, and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) framework analysis are embedded as mandatory modules across all International Business, Supply Chain, and Finance specialisations.
For students holding a 210 ECTS 4-year Bachelor's degree, CBS offers an accelerated 3-Semester (90 ECTS) Fast-Track Master's. This allows students to complete their coursework, internship, and Master's thesis within 15 to 18 months instead of the standard 4-semester (120 ECTS) track.
Student life at CBS is driven by student-run organisations (Initiatives). Active groups include CBS Business Consulting (student consulting firm), CBS Film & Photography, SensAtion (charity and social initiative), and the CBS Entrepreneurship Club, which organises pitch competitions and founder networking events.
Unlike universities that leave housing entirely to students, CBS maintains dedicated allocations in private student residence halls near Cologne's Südstadt district. These apartments feature furnished single/shared rooms, utilities, high-speed Wi-Fi, and communal lounge areas located within a short transit distance to the Rodenkirchen campus.
Through its system accreditation under the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), CBS provides formal equivalency assessments. Incoming transfer students can submit previous university transcripts and course syllabi to earn credit waivers for equivalent business, economics, or quantitative modules already completed elsewhere.
